ABOUT: When we look at a scene, the image formed in the mind’s eye is both taller and wider than the camera can capture in a single frame. By using multiple frames to extend the range of a camera’s view, we can produce a more expansive and breathtaking image, creating a sense of place that transcends the single frame.
In this workshop, we explore the composition and visual characteristics of panoramic imaging. Topics covered include the fundamentals for panoramic exposure, overlapping percentages, distance focusing methods, tripod selection and placement, image composition, and lens choices. Out in the field, we practice the technique of panoramic photography by recording scenes with overlapping segments. These segments are then seamlessly stitched together into a panoramic image with Adobe Photoshop. We then incorporate High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography and image processing, to extend the values reproduced within the scene and better reflect the image in our final print.
We take advantage of visually inspiring locations in and around the MatSu Valley to create stunning panoramas. Back at the Workshops state-of-the-arts digital lab, using the Photomerge feature in Photoshop, we explore the range of choices relating to image processing, auto alignment, and auto-blending features—all essential elements of image compositing.
This workshop perfects your technical mastery while allowing your creative process to unfold in the exciting world of digital panoramic photography and HDR imaging.
